5 year programme, first degree

If you are studying MBBS or BDS, your funding arrangements for the academic year 2019/20 and 20/21, outlined below, will depend on whether you started your course between 2012 and 2015 or from 2016 onwards. You can find more detailed information about each element of funding in the advice guide ‘Funding for Medical and Dental Students’. In that guide you can also find information about additional sources of funding, such as university hardship funds.

If you started your course before September 2012 please contact a Welfare Adviser in the Advice and Counselling Service if you have questions about your entitlements.

2016 onward starters

In years 1-4 you can apply to Student Finance England for:

In year 5 (and year 6 if you do an intercalated degree) you can apply for:

 2012 to 2015 starters

In years 1-4 you can apply to Student Finance England for:

• A Tuition Fee Loan
• A Maintenance Loan
• A Maintenance Grant
• Any Supplementary Grants you may be eligible for
• You will also be eligible for an income assessed Queen Mary Bursary

In year 5 (and year 6 if you do an intercalated degree) you can apply for:

• A reduced rate Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England
• An NHS Tuition Fee Grant 
• An NHS Grant for living costs of £1000
• An NHS Bursary for living costs
