Working Tax Credit (WTC)

Working Tax Credit (WTC)

WTC is a payment for people who are working on a low income. It will be gradually replaced by Universal Credit.

You might be eligible to claim if:

  • you are working at least 16 hours per week and
  • you ‘have a physical or mental disability that puts you at a disadvantage in getting a job’ and
  • you are claiming or recently claimed a disability related benefit

WTC is treated as income when calculating other welfare benefits including HB. It is means tested but most types of student income are ignored.

You can get a claim form from the Tax Credits helpline 0845 300 3900.
