How long will my immigration application take?

If you use the standard service, a decision should be made within 8 weeks of your appointment.

If you use the priority service, a decision should be made within 10 working days of your appointment.

If you use the super priority service, a decision should be made the day after you enrol your biometrics.

After a decision has been made on your application, you will usually receive your plastic Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) within 10 days of the decision, and a separate letter. The letter might be sent to you by post or by email.  Students are advised not to make plans to travel outside the UK until they have received their BRP card.

During the summer, and before Christmas, the Home Office receives a very large number of applications and it may take longer than normal for an application to be processed or to make an appointment, especially a free appointment. Contact us if you are unable to make an appointment to enrol your biometrics.

Unfortunately, the time it takes to process your immigration application is outside of QMUL’s control.

Warning: Do not plan any travel outside the UK until you have your new BRP. If you unexpectedly need to travel urgently and your application is still pending, you can contact the Advice and Counselling Service for advice.
